Our beautifully landscaped grounds offer patients, family members, visitors and staff a peaceful and serene environment with colorful gardens and inviting patio settings. One can relax in the solitude of the Amish-inspired gazebo, amidst the soothing sounds of the waterfall, meticulously landscaped in the serenity garden.
The lush gardens are maintained by Jeffrey E. Watts, Advanced Master Gardener. Jeff joined our team in May, 1977 as a member of the Maintenance Department and was promoted to the Director of Grounds and Maintenance in 1981. In 1996, he was finally able to pursue his true passion, when he became our on site Master Gardener. His background includes extensive studies, including a Certified Biodynamic Gardener in 1981, Certified Master Gardener in 1985 and then Certified Advanced Master Gardener in 1991. Jeff completed a two year apprenticeship program at the Michigan School of Gardening in 2002 and is a Certified Gardener, Fine Arts.
Over the past 30 years, he has designed and planted a variety of perennials and annuals, as well as many woody ornamental shrubs and trees. According to Jeff, “Our hope is that anyone who experiences our gardens, will find something interesting to look at; that they feel a sense of nature’s beauty and experience a sense of peace and tranquility, even if only for a moment.”
